Clotfelter Residence - Lawrenceburg, KY

Jerry and Jeanne work from their home on their very successful internet business so living comfortably and functionally is very important to them. Jerry did the majority of his architectural drawings will just a bit of help from our plan designers. They have a beautiful wooded lot situated in Moreland Woods subdivision located near the Bluegrass Parkway and US 127 in Anderson County.

Jerry shopped his project with a couple of local builders but was not impressed with the details and costing that they provided in his pre-build evaluation. CMA was selected as their contractor because of their experience and depth of knowledge in areas where he wanted specific guidance.

The Clotfelter’s wanted a very energy efficient home and one that would be appropriate for when they aged. They also wanted a mother-in-law suite integral to the main home. The design and construction focused on handicapped accessibility with a ranch format being the most appropriate. Jerry and Jeanne really liked the Frank Lloyd Wright look or the Prairie Style with low horizontal lines and open interior, so the design followed suit.

The construction started with a full concrete basement including a safe room, crafts room and full bath. We installed a radiant heating system throughout the basement floor that will work with the WaterFurnace Geothermal heating system. The hot water for the home is also supplied by the geothermal system. The main floor walls and vaulted ceilings were insulated totally with Icynene foam insulation, which has the best R-value of any insulation product on the market. High efficiency windows and doors were installed including low-e glass.

Since they work from home a large functional office is situated on the left hand side as you enter the front door. Lots of custom built-in cabinets and a trey ceiling with diffused lighting really accent this room. The right wing of the house is the master bedroom suite that has a vaulted ceiling, whirlpool bath, tiled walk in shower and plenty of storage space in walk-in closets.

The main living area features a floor to ceiling fireplace is open to the back screened in porch and the main kitchen. The left wing of the house is the self contained mother-in-law suite. A breezeway connects an 1,100 sq ft 3 car garage and workshop area for all of Jerrys projects to be completed.

This home has over 3,000 sq ft on the first floor and close to the same in the basement. Because of the energy efficient construction the total heating, cooling and hot water cost for the home is less than $1,000 per year!
